Heavy losses have struck the economy of the nation, by the internet or cyber crime in previous years.  The report of the Australian institute of Criminology says that, financial loss during the 2006-07 financial year was in between $595 and $649 million. The Australian government has prepared effective actions, to fight the cyber crime, so that, digital Australia is created and is maintained, for the development of the nation.

Various authorized bodies, have been created by Australian government, for maintaining a secure, resilient and trusted electronic operating environment, in close collaboration with the States and territories, the private sector and the broader community. The bodies in function to tackle internet or cyber issues are Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT), Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC), Attorney-general’s Department (AGD), Australian Communications and Media authority (ACMA), Australian Federal Police (APF), Australian Security Intelligence Organization’s (ASIO), Defense Signals Directorate (DSD), Department of broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy (DBCDE), Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO), Joint Operating Arrangements (JOA), Cyber Security Policy and Coordination (CSPC) Committee.
